Destination New York City: An Urban Wonderland

NYC is meant to give you every bit of experience.

Ah, New York City… the soaring skyscrapers, food, fashion, traffic, nightlife scene, and people of all colors, shapes and forms. This city is meant to give you every bit of experience.

Yes, it is one of the cities in the world that is worth exploring, every angle, every street. Some parts of it actually reminded me of Manila – the traffic, the honking sounds, people yelling, the overcrowded streets of people, even the dirty streets with garbage bags on the streets. Traffic is the worst, I am sure a lot of you know about that already. Cabs are utterly useless, because to go 9 miles will take you about 40-45 minutes. It drove me nuts.

While some people were friendly (most of these friendly people are fellow tourists LOL), there’s a lot of obnoxious people around. I get it. I don’t take it against the New Yorkers though. It’s a high-strung place to live in. And I can never ever see myself living there. That’s like cutting ten years off my life. However, I have respect for those who live in the city. That’s a lot to take – dealing with the stress, while trying to make it. Bringing their A-game everyday or be eaten alive – there’s that spirit.

Don’t get me wrong, I am not trashing the city at all. I am just letting you know there’s a sense of familiarity of the city that reminded me of Manila, and yes, I’m well aware Manila is a lot worse.

But, NYC is a must to visit. I’d say there’s no city like no other – everything about it. And no, I disagree when other bloggers give a ‘list of things to do,’ etc. I’d say, whether it’s your first time or have been back to New York City a couple of times, just let the city take you to wherever you want to see or do.  Wander through the streets, and just see where it leads you. I don’t care if that’s Time Square or Rockefeller, Central Park, Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn Bridge, etc. Yes, just go. This is NYC, explore it.

As you wander in every street, you’d feel a sense familiarity from a particular country to another – from Chinatown to a street full of Jewish delis. People from different countries and cultures live here, and they actually LIVE it. A lot of restaurants, and I mean A LOT. Forget chain restaurants. There are a lot of local places to dine showcasing international cuisines – from food truck, gastropubs, creative coffee shops, to sit-in fine dining.

The city screams arts with museums devoted to world icons. There’s The Met, MoMA and Guggenheim, and others.

It’s a city that never sleeps. Shopping, fashion scene and entertainment options are all around the city. And the streets become the runway any time of the day.

It’s truly an urban city of wonderland.
